I had an old friend who kept a blog for something like 15 years. They were hardly a daily poster, maybe every two weeks or once a month they'd put out an update or post a batch of pictures or something. Sometimes they'd go months without an update; other times it was weekly posts. I asked him about it, once: what was it like to maintain such a long-running blog? Was it stressful coming up with something to say? Didn't he feel like he owed something to his readers, especially if he hadn't posted in a while?
He was surprised. "No, man. I just put out what I think is interesting. It's just for me." Not a revolutionary concept, but as someone who frequently can't be bothered to share their creative output at all, it's something I've meditated on for years. Creating in a vacuum is all well and good but at some point you need things to be seen.
Calling yourself a writer is easy but it's easy to do so when you've never written anything. Taking the additional step of sharing the work is the hard part. So. Here we are.
